Synoxyl® AZ (INCI: Acetyl Zingerone) is a multi-targeted antiaging molecule designed to counteract aging before it happens and to reverse key signs of photo-damaged skin including pigmentation. Synoxyl® AZ prevents skin damage and nurtures skin’s own ability to maintain the integrity of the ECM for optimal health and appearance throughout life. Synoxyl ® AZ thus provides a translational step forward towards development of a truly efficacious molecule to treat or prevent the consequences of intrinsic and extrinsic skin aging.

Formulation Tips

2. In a side phase, weigh Synoxyl® AZ and the proper amount of solubilizer and mix until all solids are dissolved. Heating to 65-70C may be required.
3. Add side phase of solubilizer and Synoxyl® AZ to the main batch post-emulsion.
a. Higher shear may be required to fully disperse the Synoxyl® AZ solution in the main batch. In this case, add the solubilizer and Synoxyl® AZ phase to the main batch on the homogenizer.
4. If Synoxyl® AZ is being solubilized in oil-soluble ingredients, Synoxyl® AZ can be added directly into the heated oil phase of the batch.
3. Add side phase of solubilizer and Synoxyl® AZ to the main batch post-emulsion.

| What is Synoxyl® AZ incompatible with? | Because Synoxyl® AZ is a phenolic compound, it is incompatible with sodium hydroxide, potassium hydroxide and aluminum hydroxide. |
| Does Synoxyl® AZ color the product? | Synoxyl® AZ as a raw material is white to off-white in color. When dissolved in a solubilizer, the solution will be a pale yellow, but it should not color the formula. |
| Is Synoxyl® AZ heat stable? | Yes! Synoxyl® AZ is heat stable and can be added directly to the oil phase as long as the proper solubilizer is also in the phase or it can be solubilized in a separate phase and added post-emulsion. |
| What range does the pH of the product containing Synoxyl® AZ need to be in? | Synoxyl® AZ is a phenolic compound and needs to be formulated into products within the acidic pH range (below 6.5). Formulators should check the pH range acceptable for all other ingredients as well. |
| Can anything affect the color of the product containing Synoxyl® AZ? | Iron or copper ions can affect the color of a product with Synoxyl® AZ. These metals ions can be present in water and can also be produced by UV radiation. To avoid interaction with Synoxyl® AZ and metal ions, the following measures can be taken: • Add a chelating agent at 0.1-0.3% (Examples: EDTA, EDDS, Sodium Phytate) • Use airless and/or opaque packaging |
