In a recent article published in the Journal of Cosmetic Dermatology, researchers evaluated the effects of Synoxyl® AZ (acetyl zingerone, or AZ) and VitaSynol® C (tetrahexyldecyl ascorbate, or THDA) on skin photoaging in comparison to THDA alone.
Synoxyl® AZ is a 99% pure multifunctional organic compound that is based on structural leads from Zingerone and Curcumin. AZ helps to reverse signs of photodamaged skin and enhance the skin’s defenses against environmental stressors.
VitaSynol® C is a 99% pure, oil-soluble form of Vitamin C that mitigates cell damage, scavenges reactive oxygen species (ROS), and inhibits UV-induced melanogenesis to provide anti-aging benefits.
Synoxyl® AZ is already proven to help stabilize a formulation with VitaSynol® C, enhancing collagen production and antioxidant effects. How does this combination impact photoaging?
In a randomized double-blind comparative study, researchers investigated topical AZ with THDA versus THDA alone on facial photoaging. The 8-week study included 44 healthy participants, aged 30 to 65, who were randomly assigned to two groups:
- Group 1: Applied cream containing 5% THDA and 1% AZ
- Group 2: Applied cream containing 5% THDA
The results were as follows:
- Statistically significant decrease in wrinkle severity after 8 weeks in Group 1, compared to a statistically significant increase in Group 2
- Statistically significant decrease in facial pigment intensity after 8 weeks in Group 1, compared to a statistically significant decrease in Group 2
- Statistically significant decrease in facial redness intensity after 8 weeks in Group 1, compared to an statistically significant increase in Group 2
In conclusion, using a combination of THDA and AZ may reduce facial wrinkles, pigmentation, and redness compared to THDA alone.
